Teacher Murder Suspect Will Not Apply For Bail

Sky News –

A 15-year-old schoolboy charged with the murder of Leeds schoolteacher Ann Maguire will not be applying for bail, a court is told.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared via video-link at Leeds Crown Court flanked by security guards.

He is accused of stabbing the 61-year-old teacher to death during a lesson at Corpus Christi Catholic College on Monday.

Friday morning's hearing lasted just 17 minutes during which the boy watched and listened to the proceedings from an undisclosed location.

He could be seen occasionally fidgeting in his chair or looking down at the floor, said Sky's Mike McCarthy, who was in court for the bail hearing.

There was no application for bail and Judge Geoffrey Marson QC adjourned the case until July 11 for a plea and case management hearing.

A provisional date for the start of the schoolboy's murder trial was set for November 3.

The judge warned social media users they were as constrained by the restrictions in the reporting of this particular case, as the press.

He said the Attorney General was following the case "closely" and warned Twitter or Facebook users not to identify the accused - or any of the children who may appear as witnesses in the case.
