Dutch Police Search Canal For Missing Brit

Sky News –

Police divers are searching canals in a Dutch city after a British man went missing after a night out clubbing with friends.

Wayne Davies, 22, left the Hifi club in Leiden in the early hours of Saturday but has not been seen since.

He was meant to return to the UK on Monday and police say his bank card has not been used since he disappeared.

Leiden is located on the Old Rhine and has many quays and small canals. Police believe the apprentice plumber may have fallen in and drowned.

Mr Davies, from East Grinstead in Sussex, was staying at Leiden's Golden Tulip hotel with two friends.

He was said to be wearing black trousers, a blue hooded top and blue trainers when he went missing.

Missing persons officer Sergeant Andy Standing said: "Wayne's mother reported him missing on Sunday. He was due to return the next day with his friends but did not.

"The Dutch police are investigating his disappearance and we are offering Mrs Davies support as and where we can.

"If anyone knows anything about where Wayne is I would urge them to contact us so we can find him."
