Berlin taxi drivers are celebrating a decision by authorities to ban the Uber ride-sharing app from operating in the city.
The Berlin Taxi Drivers' Association said the move means its members will not be put at a disadvantage by having to abide by rules that Uber can ignore.
Berlin authorities said they would not tolerate Uber putting customers at risk by allowing them to ride in cars that have not been checked, or with drivers who have not been vetted or properly insured.
They ordered the San Francisco-based company to immediately cease providing its service in Berlin or face a 25,000 euro (£20,000) fine.
Uber, which has faced similar snags in other cities worldwide, said in a statement that it will file an objection and seek to suspend the decree, pending a court decision.
