Paul Bradley has said he feels sad that he doesn't get to see as much of his old TV mates since the BBC moved to Elstree, because the canteen has fallen out of favour.
The Holby City star made his name as Nigel Bates in EastEnders and said that when the programmes were filmed at Television Centre, he used to catch up with his old co-stars all the time - but now shooting has moved to Elstree, things are less sociable.
Paul, who plays Professor Elliot Hope OBE in the medical drama, told Inside Soap: "It's a shame, because I don't really see anyone from EastEnders any more. Both shows are filmed at Elstree, but now it's a case of me turning left in the car park, rather than right.
"The people who used to go to the BBC canteen don't tend to, as there are other places to eat in the area these days. When Barbara Windsor and June Brown were working together, it was like The Ivy in that canteen.
"They would always hold court on a Tuesday. I would join them sometimes and it was lovely. Also, Top Of The Pops was filmed at the studios, so the cast would go and see the bands."
Paul's Holby character is due to undergo brain surgery in the show and he said that preparing for the scenes had been strange.
He explained: "It was all very weird. They made a plastic version of my head so they could use it for the brain surgery scenes.
"I had to have a plaster cast done to get the shape right, so I found myself sat there, my head covered in gunky plaster with a straw sticking out of my mouth so I could breathe. When it set they drew a face on it and I looked like a very mad Cyberman."
