The widow of poisoned spy Alexander Litvinenko has said the "whole world" will know the truth about what happened to her husband as a public inquiry was formally opened into his death.
Outside the Royal Courts of Justice, Marina Litvinenko said she was positive the inquiry would get under way in January next year, as directed by its chair Sir Robert Owen.
Earlier in the hearing, Sir Robert praised the widow for her patience in the face of "highly regrettable" delays.
Ms Litvinenko said today was a "special" day and she was confident the inquiry will start on schedule, adding: "Everybody all around the world will know the truth."
