Duran Duran are suing their own fan club for not paying the band promised revenue.
The group, which was one of the most successful global acts of the 1980s, has accused the Chicago-based club of breach of contract.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Duran Duran's lawsuit names Worldwide Fan Clubs Inc as the defendant.
It says the band entered a contract in 2010 allowing the club to collect memberships and sell merchandise.
The contract filed in Illinois this week stipulates that the Notorious and Girls On Film singers get 75% of the profits.
It is thought the band's members, John Taylor, Simon Le Bon, Roger Taylor and Nick Rhodes are seeking around £23,500 ($40,000) in damages.
A statement issued by the band said: "Duran Duran values its many loyal fans around the world and feels compelled to correct the media's mischaracterisation of its lawsuit against Worldwide Fan Clubs, Inc.
"The Band emphatically states that the lawsuit is not against its loyal fans but simply seeks to protect its rights against the company that formerly managed its fan club.
"Duran Duran's concern and love for their fans has always been their primary goal - and the reliance on a first class service for the fans is paramount."
